Leave balances in Flare are now shown in hours in most places. In some places Flare used to show leave in days, or allow users to toggle between days and hours. However, the underlying balances were always stored as hours. Leave legislation and calculations always boil down to hours - because workers in different companies and jobs can work a different number of hours per day, or week, or on any given day or week. One person’s day or week is not necessarily another person’s day or week. But an hour is always an hour.
As Flare has added more features (like Work Patterns for shift workers), and added more customers with diverse types and conditions of work, it has become more difficult to apply simple rules that convert Leave balances reliably and accurately into Days. Attempting to extend this to all variations of schedule, award, work pattern and occupation, would be increasingly difficult - and risky in terms of data integrity and performance.
I apologise for any inconvenience to the earlier customers of Flare, but now you have been joined by thousands of new Aussie workers, including pharmacists, miners, charity workers, accountants, architects, even professional footballers - we have no workable alternative but to present your leave balances in the currency they are calculated and captured in. Hours.
