There is a failsafe process for escalating approvals which are incomplete due to the approver(s) being unavailable for any reason (which may cause problems such as holding up Payroll).
One or more Permission Groups in an organisation should be set up with the permissions “Approval : Global Override” and “Approval : All Approvals”.
When it is necessary to escalate an approval, an individual with those permissions should complete the approval and, optionally, use the ‘Comment’ field to explain the circumstances. For instance, they may need to talk to another manager to confirm approval, and will want to ensure a note of that is on file.
Please note that, in the medium term, Flare will introduce some rule-based features to handle outstanding approvals (eg. approval escalation and proxy approvers), however when you handle an exception with a rule, there’s always the possibility of an exception to THAT rule (for example your proxy approver may be unavailable), so the process described here will always be the reliable fallback.
